Local Buzz: Tigerbomb [Lancaster, PA]

by: Kitty White

Out of Lancaster, PA rises Tigerbomb: a band creating their own brand of rock. This three-piece combines different types of rock and funk and adds in their unique vocals to create what I can only describe as System of a Down meets jam band meets Buckethead. Their sound is fluid and wouldn’t fit comfortably under just one genre. Tigerbomb’s eponymous first release showcases this very well.

It begins with ‘3’, a drum driven track with heavily distorted guitars and vocals that create a great crescendo to go into the rest of the album. The second song ‘Satch’s Satchel’ is one of my favorites from the album featuring some great guitar work. It starts off with a melodic riff that transitions into a funky jam when the vocals come in. Throw in a great bass line and this song is as infectious as they come. The pace picks up with the third song ‘Mice in the Kitchen’ but eve quicker tempo nothing loses it’s power. ‘Mice in the Kitchen’ starts off with the bass, one of my favorite things. Tigerbomb do a great job not relying on one aspect of their music to carry along the entire album. Even singer and bassist Andrew with his already unique voice changes up his vocals from song to song. In both ‘A Head Full of Buckets’ and ‘Unknown Superpowers’ the guitar is the highlight of the song. The latter features a solo that is as mesmerizing and memorable as one of the classic greats. The next track ‘Deft Ones’ however starts off with a tasty bass groove before the major shredding kicks in. Their sound is heavy and chaotic at times but not enough to really classify it as metal.

Although the entire album has some quite emotional parts throughout it the most feeling seems to come out through the last two songs ‘The Blame’ and ‘We Deal in Lead.’ The raw screaming during the breakdown in ‘We Deal in Lead’ is passionate, powerful, and hits you right in the gut. Tigerbomb’s self-titled is strong from start to finish with a variety of sound while still keeping to their personal flavor of music. I’ve noticed myself humming some of the songs already when not listening to it. Even though I dig the sound they currently have going I’d love to see them branch out and grab from even more genres to mix it into something even more amazing.

Tigerbomb also has a few shows coming up:
Saturday May 17th at The BoneYard in Atlantic City, NJ
Saturday July 26th at Snyder's Tattoo llc in Lancaster, PA
